The situation

On 24 June 2026, two earthquakes · magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 · struck northern Venezuela 39 seconds apart. It was the strongest earthquake to hit the country since 1900. Buildings collapsed across Caracas and La Guaira, the main international airport was damaged, and hospitals are operating short of equipment and medication.

Why children are most exposed

For a child with a serious illness, a break in treatment isn't a delay · it can be dangerous. With buildings down and some hospitals damaged or overwhelmed, the children who depend on continuous care are the first to lose ground.

  • Missed treatments
  • Delayed procedures
  • Interrupted access to medication
  • Damaged healthcare infrastructure
